ITI Istanbul is an English language teacher training centre focused on teacher education, professional development and ELT consultancy.
Since 1987, ITI has worked with teachers at different stages of their professional journey — from new teachers preparing for their first international qualification to experienced teachers developing through DELTA, mentoring, training and professional development.

Dr. Tom Godfrey
Dr. Tom Godfrey has been working in English language teaching since 1980 and is the Founder and Centre Director of International Training Institute Istanbul.
He is an ELT consultant specialising in curriculum design and teacher education, with decades of experience supporting teachers, trainers and institutions. His academic background includes an Ed.D from the University of Exeter, UK.
At ITI Istanbul, he guides the centre’s academic direction and teacher training culture, bringing together practical teacher education, reflective development and a long-standing commitment to professional learning.

Our administrative team supports course organisation, participant communication and the smooth running of ITI Istanbul programmes.
Teacher Trainers & Academic Staff
Our academic team brings together experienced CELTA, DELTA and teacher training professionals with backgrounds in teaching, training, academic management and international ELT.
Liz Aykanat
Liz is from the UK and came to Istanbul after completing the Trinity TESOL Certificate. After completing her DipTEFLA, she moved into teacher training and became full-time at ITI in 2008. She is also an experienced speaking examiner.
Joanne Bates
Joanne has worked in ELT in the UK, Greece and Turkey for over 20 years as a teacher, trainer and Director of Studies, mainly in higher education. She is a CELTA and Delta holder and has an MA in Teaching English for Academic Purposes from the University of Nottingham, UK.
Elna Coetzer
Originally from South Africa, Elna has lived and worked in Istanbul for more than 20 years. She has worked as a teacher, young learner coordinator and Director of Studies before moving into training. She is an experienced CELTA and Delta tutor and also works internationally as a coach and trainer.
